Contiki: Day 18 – Prague, Czech Republic
// May 28th, 2008 // Contiki, Czech Republic, Travel
Well, the breakfast wasn’t too bad this morning. The last time I was at the Ibis in Paris it wasn’t too bad either. I was definitely satisfied, which has been rare on this trip so far.
We headed out around 9:00AM to do a Contiki Optional walking tour in Prague. I was doubtful that it would be good, and I was right. It was very basic, and I didn’t get too much out of it. I probably would have been better off doing it on my own instead of wasting 6 Euro. Damnit! Our guide took us to Prague Castle (the largest castle in Europe). I assumed this would be the absolute biggest highlight of my trip to Prague but I was very wrong. The castle didn’t even seem like a castle. I guess I was just thinking that it would be built like a traditional old castle, but it looked more modern if anything. We pretty much spent an hour exploring the castle, and we didnt even go inside. We walked around the outside. It was quite boring if you ask me. Not many people seemed too interested in it.
After the walking tour Bruno, Juliana and I headed off to explore the city instead of doing the Contiki Optional: Prague River Cruise & Lunch. We walked all through the Old Town, and New town. We spent some time in a few shops and grabbed some lunch at a restaurant in New town. The prices looked great outside until we got the bill. They whacked us with a cover charge, and all sorts of other crap. The waiter had the balls to tell me I needed to give him a 10% tip and that it wasnt included in the bill. I looked at him, smiled and walked away…
After lunch I headed off to do some shopping. I couldn’t help but buy a new pair of jeans, and a belt for myself. I barely have any clothes. I’ve worn everything 4 or 5 times at this point and it’s been a little less than 3 weeks at this point. Yikes! After shopping I headed back to the hotel to get some work done. Nothing planned for tonight… because I’m heading to northern Germany tomorrow (St. Goar) in the Rhine Valley for 1 night. After that, 2 nights in Amsterdam, and I’m back in Dublin on Sunday. What a crazy trip this has been so far…
