Hiking Red Rock Canyon – Las Vegas, NV

| February 24th, 2010 | Photography, Travel, USA

Welcome to Red Rock Canyon!

A place that most people never get to see while visiting Sin City. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a 45 min drive West of Las Vegas, NV. If you’re feeling adventurous and you’re sick of walking the strip, take a day trip out to Red Rock. I GUARANTEE that you’ll have a blast.

If you’re not into hiking, biking or rock climbing, that’s okay! Red Rock has a 13-mile scenic loop [map] that you can spend some time driving around. There are many pull off parking lots along the way, so if you see a particular area that you’d like to get out and see for yourself, you can do so.

I highly recommend scoping out some hikes before you make the trek out to Red Rock. Definitely plan ahead and don’t forget to bring lots of water!

Check out the view!

After hiking in the sun for about an hour or so, I needed some shade!

Yeah, Red Rock is a great place to hike. I just visited Valley of Fire State Park while I was in Vegas last week… post and photos coming soon!

We loved Red Rock too! For a different type of experience, and not too far from vegas either- is Mt. Charleston. We went over New Years and the snow was awesome, the views were beautiful and we got to do some hiking too.
Where are you going first on your next trip? We are leaving for our RTW trip at the end of May and starting in Sydney (we live in L.A.). Hope the planning is going great- and if we are out together we should meet up!

We're leaving on June 5th. First stop Cairo, Egypt. We'll then slowly make our way west. Maybe we'll meet in the middle! Keep in touch.
