Just got back from Cairo, Egypt and absolutely loved it. I have previously been to Asia, Europe and backpacked, but nothing prepared me to Egypt.
Make sure you have some tummy-bug tablets as well hand sanitiser. Aswan and Luxor were the most amazing places, Cairo was fairly dirty. Nile Cruises are breathtaking, as well as visiting Abu Simbel etc- Egypt was by far one of the most amazing places i have ever been.
Great to hear that you loved Cairo! I hear that Egypt definitely has that "shock factor". We will try to be as prepared as possible. I've done a lot of research ahead of time so I'm guessing that we might be somewhat prepared for Egypt. Never know though! ;)
