One Unforgettable Day at Patara Elephant Farm

Patara Elephant Farm

One of the things we were looking forward to most during our time spent in Chiang Mai was a visit to The Patara Elephant Farm. We had done some previous research on this Chiang Mai based elephant camp along with reading reviews and we even got a personal recommendation from our friend Brock who visited Patara just a few months ago as he passed through Thailand. After hearing nothing but positive feedback about Patara Elephant Farm, we were extremely excited to take part in their signature “Elephant Owner for a Day” program. We we’re equally excited to be able to participate in a program that went towards a good cause.

Many of the elephants at Patara Elephant Farm have been rescued from unsuitable working conditions and the proceeds from this wonderful program help keep the elephants in a natural environment for breeding. Not only does Patara rescue elephants from unsuitable conditions, but they’re also working to prevent extinction with their special breeding program.

The “Elephant Owner for a Day” program at Patara offers so much more than it advertises. You learn how to figure out if your elephant is in a good mood or a bad mood and whether to approach it in the bush along with how to feed, brush, and bathe your elephant in the river, and so much more!

Getting Down and Dirty!

Be prepared to get down and dirty during your visit to Patara. Learning how to properly mount and ride an elephant is also on the agenda for the day. Personally, my favorite part was playing in the water with the elephants at the waterfall. It was amazing to see how playful and loving these gentle giants really are.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to give back to a good cause and to promote the care, attention and love that elephants need on a daily basis. I would highly recommend that you take part in this program before you sign up for one of the popular elephant riding, trekking and rafting packages that are advertised all over Chiang Mai as you may change your mind after taking part in the Elephant Owner for a Day program at Patara.

Take a look at the video above to find out why our trip to the Patara Elephant Farm was one of the most memorable days on our trip thus far.
