What’s Not to Love About Sitges, Spain?
Everyone who goes to Sitges falls in love with this picturesque little seaside city. I have traveled to Barcelona on a number of occasions. The first time I was organizing my holidays in the city, a friend recommended that I visit Sitges for the day. I suppose I am lucky that I have the flexibility to travel off-peak so I was able to take advantage of the cheap flights to Stiges and jet off with no real plans in mind.
Sitges is a small city which is located about 22 miles outside Barcelona city centre. It is renowned as one of the most gay-friendly cities in the world and therefore attracts lots of gay and lesbian travelers, as well as wealthy locals who retreat to their luxury holiday homes for the summer.
It’s really easy to get to the city – you can take the Spanish RENFE train from Sants station and the journey takes just about 35 minutes. I went in May when the weather was perfect and the city was nice and quiet.
I always try to arrive in Sitges early morning so that I can grab some breakfast before sightseeing for the day.
Tip: Don’t arrive too early as most shops do not open until 10AM.
It is also worth noting that everything closes between 2PM and 5PM (apart from some restaurants). I usually take this opportunity to spend a few hours on the beach sunbathing.
One of my favorite beaches in Sitges is San Sebastian and those beside the church. You can rent paddle boats and sun loungers here. Yes, Sitges has great beaches, boutique shops, lots of restaurants and it is quaint. You will just love walking around the narrow Spanish streets and admiring the architecture…..what more could you want from a city?
When I purchased my airline tickets to Sitges, I booked through eDreams. Search them and their competitors to find out what ends up being cheaper for you.
Oh wow, I had no idea about this place! Next time I find myself in Barce I'm definitely going.
