Four Great Reasons to Visit Barcelona this Spring

Winter slowly but surely comes to an end. The sun returns, temperatures rise again and people are coming out of hibernation mode. Although Barcelona is known for mild temperatures during the winter time, spring time makes renting accommodation in Barcelona more appealing for many reasons including the following:

Festival Season

Primavera Sound 2011

Every year Barcelona hosts some of the most important music festivals in Europe. The festival season in Barcelona kicks off with the Primavera Sound. The date for this year’s festival is May 26th-28th, 2011. More information on ticket prices and the programcan be found on the official website –  Primavera Sound 2011.

Beach Activities

Drinks on the beach Barcelona

Yes, the beach is more of a summer meeting point but spring already gives us a little idea of how lovely life at the beach is. It might not be warm enough for skinny dipping in the Mediterranean but the beach already is filled with people sitting at one of the chiringuitos (little beach bars) along the beach strip. Taking a long walk at the beach deserves a cold beer looking over the sea, don’t you think?

Barbecue Season

Barbecue CalcotsWho doesn’t love a good barbecue? Hanging out with friends and family eating great food is probably one of the best ways to spend your time. In March and April you will find that many people in Catalonia organize so-called Calçotadas, barbecues where next to meat, calçots are being thrown on the grill. Calçots are spring onions that are very typical for the region because they have their origin in Catalonia. Traditionally they are barbecued and dipped in a sauce called Salvitxada or romesco sauce – delicious!

Hiking

Hiking BarcelonaOne of the best features of Barcelona is that it offers activities for every taste and every age. Not only do you have the Mediterranean Sea directly at your doorstep but also mountains for all nature lovers that love to go hiking in the great outdoors. A great escape from the busy city is a day-hiking trip to Montserrat. A hiking tour through the natural park of Montserrat will reveal one of the most beautiful sides of Catalonia. Also you can visit the famous monastery and the basilica.

Spring time is the ideal time to take full advantage of everything that Barcelona and its surroundings have to offer, before the heat of the summer won’t leave you any other choice but go to the beach. Get your Barcelona accommodation to complete your trip!

  1. I’m a beach bum so it’s obvious what kind of activities I will get myself into in Barcelona. I surely hope they have surfing spots somewhere in the Mediterranean.

    Useful post, thank you :)
