5 Beach Getaways for the Budget Traveler

Spring is just about here and summer is only around the corner. With the weather getting warmer, it’s time for holidaymakers to consider taking advantage of the cheap travel deals that are currently available. Fortunately, in this relatively early part of the year, there is an abundance to choose from, many of which provide access to some of the planet’s best beaches.

Vietnam

Vietnam BeachesOne of the world’s most exciting and inexpensive destinations is Vietnam. If you’re considering a Vietnam beach holiday, there is certainly plenty to take in; the Far East destination has 3,000 km of coastline, which accommodates all manner of beaches, from pristine white sand with five star resorts to deserted coves with nothing but the neighbouring scenery for company.

If you’re in Vietnam on a budget, you may wish to think selectively about where in the country you visit. Should you find yourself based in the capital, Hanoi, you may wish to embark on an excursion to Bai Chay beach. This is a superb summer beach destination, famed for its seafood, and easily accessible by utilizing a cheap car hire service with a driver. You may also be able to find a moto-taxi that will take you as well.

Destin, Florida

Destin Florida BeachPerhaps you want to arrange a family holiday and are looking for a destination that’s a little more westernised? If so, the Florida city of Destin is among the best budget beach break options. Situated on the state’s Emerald Coast, the city remains relatively unknown among travelers despite being blessed with emerald green waters and superb sandy beaches.

The US has thousands of miles of coastline for holidaymakers to choose from, and while California and Florida are home to the most popular destinations, it is possible to venture a little off the beaten track and discover a cheaper unearthed gem.

Outer Banks

Outer Banks North CarolinaAnother budget travel beach destination is Outer Banks in North Carolina. Approximately 150 miles long and no more than a couple of miles wide, Outer Banks is a majestic expanse of sand barrier islands, with the region accommodating a rich variety of flora and fauna. There are no throngs of tourists here; if you’re in the US and want some serenity from your budget coastal trip, the Outer Banks is the place to head to.

Tenerife

TenerifeSome of the world’s more unusual beaches can be found on Tenerife in the Canary Islands. This island off the coast of North Africa is a favourite with European holidaymakers, and it’s not hard to see why. Many of the beaches here are man-made, either with gold sand or black shingle. It’s not just about lazing in the sun here, either; Tenerife is one of the world’s best windsurfing destinations, so why not try something a little adventurous during your holiday here?

Rhodes

Rhodes, GreeceFor a classic European beach destination, look no further than the Greek island of Rhodes. One of Greece’s largest and most fertile islands, the beaches here are true perfection; expect crystal clear turquoise waters and pristine golden sand.

This year’s beach holiday shouldn’t cost the Earth. Depending on where you’re flying from the flights may be expensive but with budget beach options in Europe, N.America, and Asia you should have no problem finding a decent flight to one of the above destinations. With so many budget options available, now’s the time to get planning ahead of this year’s beach break on the cheap.

  2. Love the last pic with the diving board!
I’d also include Dahab, Egypt to the mix. Cheap diving and great beach lounge vibe

    • Thanks, the diving board is crazy huh!? How could I forget Dahab… I will eventually do a full write up about Dahab as it’s one of my favorite places! I was there twice last year and I hope to get back there this year at some point.

  3. Yeah, love the diving board also. Tenerife is getting more tourists this year and the prices there are cheaper now than 10 years ago. Good that there’s such diversity of things to do there also.

  4. You’re right, Destin is still a little unknown to many travelers. That’s why I like it! But I would absolutely love to check out some of those overseas beach locations, such as Tenerife. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!

  5. Wow! I didn’t notice that stair contraption in the last section until I went back and re-read it! That’s so cool! Speaking of pictures, do you know where in Destin those bright colored chairs are? I would love to have some of my own.

    • Yeah, isn’t that “stair contraption” cool!? I actually don’t know where those chairs are in Destin, sorry!
