4 Reasons For Visiting Madrid in May

The warm weather is setting in and everyone is starting to think about their summer holidays. If you have some time off in May I would highly recommend visiting Madrid for a number of reasons.

1. Beautiful Weather

Madrid is best visited in the spring or autumn as the summer heat can be quite unbearable and in the winter it is very cold. In May the weather is just perfect for wandering around the city, it isn’t too warm and it isn’t too cold. The city of Madrid is all about sightseeing and culture and so in order to make the most of it be sure to visit when the weather is perfect.

2. Tons of Events

Another perk about visiting at this time of the year is that Madrid celebrates its annual San Isidro Festival on May 15th. San Isidro is Madrid’s Top Festival. If you want to get a real insight into Spanish culture, this is one of your best opportunities.

During the San Isidro Festival, which celebrates the patron saint of Madrid, you can watch street parades, take part in events held outdoors, sample Spanish cuisine such as Cocino Madrileño and even go to a bull flight if you choose. If you are traveling with kids they will enjoy dressing up in flamenco dresses or matador outfits along with the locals.

Another popular event held towards the end of May is the annual Book Fair. This year it will begin on the May 27 and it takes place in Retiro Park. I love to read Spanish novels and so it is a great excuse to pick up some books and meet famous authors.

3. Cheap Flights

You will find that flights to Madrid are usually cheaper in May as this month is not considered to be the high-season. Once Easter is over, everyone heads back to school and work so in turn, airlines are not selling many flights. For this reason you will find it easy to get cheap airline tickets to Madrid in May.

4. Bargain Accommodations

You should have no problems finding bargain accommodation in May as this is considered a cheap time to travel. Make sure you look for a hotel or hostel with a pool so that you can take advantage of the nice weather. Sunbathing and relaxing in beautiful Madrid sounds so good right now!
