The Vietnamese and their Motorbikes

The Rules of the Road | Wait, what Rules!?

If there’s one thing I will never forget about Vietnam it’s the things that the Vietnamese people carry on the back of their motorbikes. I’ve witnessed motorbikes carrying mini refrigerators, live animals, 5 people, floral shops, large quantities of fruit, hundreds of balloons, oil drums, propane tanks, full-sized mattresses, artwork and more.

Couple this with the insane traffic, and you’ve got a disaster waiting to happen. Although, with that said the disaster just never seems to happen for whatever reason. It seems that the Vietnamese people don’t even bat an eye because it’s just another day in Vietnam.

Tell me this… do the Vietnamese drive crazy and carry wacky things on the back of their bikes or are we just “too careful” back here in the states?

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen carried on the back of a motorbike in Vietnam?

Check out this great video below of crazy things on the back of motorbikes

  1. This is great! I spent several years in China and was always amazing by what they could carry on their motorbikes! haha

  2. That looks insane! They don’t get this intense in South America… just small families and big guns. Any 4-wheelers out there? Side-cars? Sweet Wheelies?

  3. The insane traffic & sea of scooters/bikes is part of the story Vietnam has to offer travelers. I found the traffic in Saigon fascinating and I actually made a 5 part series on it posted to my youtube channel. Crossing the street just to get to the other side was an adventure almost each & every time.

  4. It is the same crazy in Mexico and Southern Italy where I used to live!

  5. It is so crazy huh!! It is funny how you actually get used to the craziness of it all after a while.
Thanks for sharing our vid with your readers Ryan! :)

  6. Arrived in Vietnam yesterday for a few weeks, as part of rtw trip. We were considering getting a bike, but need to master how to cross the roads on foot first ;-) Great travel blog.
