Happy Thanksgiving from Granada, Nicaragua!
TweetWhat are you thankful for?
Today I’m thankful to be able to travel the world when ever I please, to have a beautiful girlfriend who puts up with me being away for weeks on end, for the friends that I’ve met abroad (Brock, Rob, Mohammed, Ahmed, Mostafa, Nick, Jess, etc) as well as at home, and last but not least for my family who continue to support my ever growing non-conformist lifestyle.
Hunting for Turkey
This morning we woke up and headed directly to the market to buy a few eggs and some bread. Once we got back to the hostel we cooked up a small scrambled egg/toast breakfast. We’re absolutely loving the fact that we can cook here versus eating every meal on the streets. Not that the food is bad because it’s not, it’s actually quite good but we both enjoy cooking our own meals. Our day usually includes at least one trip to the super market, and the actual street market. It’s a colorful, loud, and cultural experience in itself.
After spending a few hours online we headed out to find ourselves a Thanksgiving dinner. We headed straight for the Calzada (walking street) where all the gringo bars and tour agencies are. We stopped into a bar called Margarita’s was having a Thanksgiving feast and here’s what the scene looked like…
For 250 cordoba ($10.93 USD), we were allowed to pile on as much of this hearty food as possible on one plate. And that’s exactly what we did…

Ahhh, the traditional Thanksgiving ham. Glad you had a good celebration!
