Flying High with Cape Town Helicopter Tours
Dave: Surprise!
Us: No @#$#%% way! You’re kidding right!? SERIOUSLY Dave?
Screams, yells and high fives ensue.
We had just returned from an early morning tour of Robben Island when we were pretty much blindsided by this “surprise” from South Africa Tourism.
There was word floating around that our guide, Dave, would surprise us with something cool but to be totally honest a helicopter ride wasn’t even close to what we had in mind.
Once we signed our life away, it was time suit up and get ready to FLY!
Each of us was handed a life jacket and before we knew it we were crossing the landing pad and hopping in the chopper!
At first there was debate about who was going to sit shotgun but that was resolved quickly after realizing that it was Teri’s birthday. (HAPPY BIRTHDAY TERI!) I mean, how could we argue with a woman about sitting in the front seat, nevermind a woman who is celebrating her birthday!
The Helicopter Tour over Cape Town lasted about 30 minutes before we touched back down. It was such a cool experience to get a birds eye view of Cape Town from some 2,500 ft above the city.
I wasn’t sure that anything could trump the views from the top of Table Mountain, but I was terribly wrong.
In the photo above, you’ll notice Cape Town Stadium, a 600 million dollar stadium that was built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Now that the World Cup is over, the stadium is used for an assortment of sporting events, concerts and other major events.
Is the coast of Cape Town beautiful or what? You see that resort right there on the edge of the coast? That’s the Protea Hotel President, a 4-star hotel in Cape Town’s Bantry Bay area. Looks like a pretty sweet place to stay if you ask me!
What’s not to love about the South African coast, other than the freezing cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean, of course!
The photo collage above makes it look like we’re having a party in the helicopter. Don’t let the images fool you, it was tight in there!
Through out the tour I was furiously switching back and forth between my GoPro, and T2i when it came to shooting footage and photos. Surprisingly enough, I was actually able to capture some great footage with both cameras. Don’t miss the fun video I put together below. If you enjoy the video, do me a favor and share it with your family and friends!

WOW, looks like an awesome experience!
It was such an incredible experience!
You have just sold this to me and my husband, it looks so incredible. We have both taken a helicopter ride before around the Grand Canyon, but this looks truly spectacular. Thank you so much for this incredible post :)
Thanks Tamara. You guys will love it! I look forward to hearing back from you!
Wow! How I wish I can have also this kind of cool experience, watching over the beautiful places is truly the best…
Lenon35, you can! You just have to get over to Cape Town first. ;-)
