Rob and I have been exploring the streets of Granada over the course of the last few days and I have been snapping tons of photos along the way. This is Part 2 of the Granada photo series… Enjoy!

Is he really pulling a horse?

On our walk back from Lake Nicaragua, we spotted this guy pulling a horse while riding a bike uphill. Wait, what?

You have to love the colorful streets here in Granada. They really remind me of the Colorful Streets of San Juan. Every building in town is a different color.

La Merced Church

A friend of ours recommended we check out La Merced church which happens to be two blocks from our hostel. The bell tower is the most impressive part of the church in my opinion.

The bell tower at La Merced church offers the best views in Granada, Nicaragua hands down. Check out the Cathedral de Granada in the distance. Those colors sure pop out of the skyline, huh? WOW!

Fountain in Parque Central

Here is a fountain found in the Parque Central in Granada, Nicaragua. The fountain is directly in front of the Cathedral de Granada. There are many locals hanging around as well as random food carts with delicious treats. Avoid strolling through this park after dark as it seems that a lot of shady characters hang out in there once the sun goes down.

STOP!

Yes, it’s a stop sign and NO there’s nothing really cool about it besides that fact that I liked the contrasting colors of the sign and the wall behind it. The one thing this sign is missing underneath the “ALTO” is… “having a boring life“.

Granada Street Markets

The vendors at the street markets here in Granada sell everything from fruit, vegetables, rice, beans, toys, odd shaped pink coconut snacks, colgate toothpaste (yes, I bought some) and everything else you can think of. Walking through and attempting to speak with the locals is quite the experience, I highly recommend it.

What the hell is that pink thing? I thought the same thing when I first walked by it. After a closer look, I decided to buy one for 2 Cordoba ($0.08 cents) and you can see the video of me eating the pink coco treat here.

The fruits and vegetables sold on the streets here are top notch and as fresh as you can get. You can’t beat the prices either…

The Basket Man!

Not sure where this basket man was headed but he was carrying quite the load. This reminded me of the basket makers in Vietnam, as well as the bread delivery men in Egypt. You have to be pretty coordinated, that’s for sure.

Rob and I bought 4 giant carrots from these little guys for less than $0.50. I asked them if I could snap a photo of them and they huddled up quickly. After taking the photo I showed it to them and they laughed hysterically. There’s no better feeling than making people smile, is there?

Watch out for that hole!

The streets of Granada are dangerous. Not dangerous as far as getting robbed, but more about your chances of falling in a black hole while walking at night. Even walking in the daytime is dangerous if you’re not paying enough attention to your next step. There are no covers on these holes, and while they may look shallow, I would estimate that some of them are a minimum of 4 feet deep. This hole above is on the corner of the street that our hostel is on and it’s a deep one!

Cathedral de Granada

The main square in Granada is called Parque Central. Inside of the square is filled with some of Granada’s best hotels, and some great little restaruants. I had an incredible Chicken Fajita plate here yesterday, highly recommended! You can’t miss the Cathedral de Granada when walking through the Parque as it’s the brightest building in the area. The cathedral is absolutely beautiful…

Everyone rides double in Granada

Is it me or does everyone seem to ride two up in Granada? Bicycles are a part of life here and if it means that they have to use them to shuttle the family around, they do.

We walked down Calzada until we reached the shores of Lake Nicaragua. One tip, don’t even think about swimming here. Although, if you ignored the sludgy brown waves coming into shore, I would have no sympathy for you in the first place. GROSS!

No Knives, No Guns!

The fact that this park needed signs to let people know that knives and guns are prohibited is a problem in itself. Coincidentally enough we saw a few dudes walking through with 3 ft machetes. Either they run the place or they completely missed the sign out front.

I followed the simple instructions after logging on to Easy Canvas Prints, uploaded my photo and within 10 minutes time my canvas was ordered and on it’s way! It’s really that simple!

Well, just a few days later my canvas arrived on my doorstep in a carefully packaged box to prevent any damage. I was surprised at how carefully packaged it was, it took me longer to take it out of the box than to create the canvas itself! I guess it’s better safe than sorry!

Conclusion:

What I liked best about Easy Canvas Prints is that they allow you to choose canvas sizes from 8″x8″ all the way up to 30″x40″! You can also choose your desired canvas wrap thickness (.75″ or 1.5″). I, personally, went with the 18″x24″ with a 1.5″ gallery wrap.

Many people wondered why I took a weekend trip to Death Valley National Park last year. Many people asked “Why would you want to visit a desert?” As if there is nothing but sand and cactus in Death Valley. They couldn’t have been more wrong!

My family and I have been on quite a few vacations together and after our last trip to Death Valley National Park we all came to the conclusion that it had been our best family trip to date! The amount of things to see and do in Death Valley are endless. Where in the world can you climb golden sand dunes (Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes), visit a 5 million year old dried up lake (Zabriskie Point), stand 5,000 ft above sea level (Father Crowley Vista) and then be at the lowest point in the United States at a whopping 282ft below sea level (Badwater).

Artist’s Drive

One of the most amazing sights that we saw in Death Valley was Artist’s Drive, a long winding road that cut back and forth from left to right as it took us on a sightseeing tour through it’s colorful canyon. At one point I stopped the car and hopped out to shoot this photo. As I was approaching this bend, I could see the photo in my head. I like to think that I have an eye for photography every now and then and when I saw this shot, I immediately knew it would be one of my favorites from the trip.

This totally boggles my mind. What you’re witnessing here is the Laos version of scaffolding. As you can see in the close up above these guys use wood for everything, from the scaffolding to the platforms and even the ladders! As usual safety precautions and standards are never a high priority in Southeast Asia. Imagine OSHA showed up to this debacle? These photos were shot in Vang Vieng, Laos.
