Cliff Jumping with Friends at Cenote Eden

My buddy Nate was in town for last week and we took him to his first cenote. As a matter of fact, it was a first for us as well.

Our good friend and fellow Playa expat, Cassie, played tour guide as she had been to this particular cenote before.

We couldn’t have been more thrilled to have her show us the ropes!

The proper name for Cenote Eden is actually Cenote Jardin del Eden.

It’s located approximately 15 miles south of Playa del Carmen almost directly across from the Barcelo Maya Resort.

How to Get to Cenote Eden

From Playa del Carmen, you can take a colectvio from the colectiov stand located on  Calle 2 Norte between Avenida 15 and 20.

Hop on board one of the colectivos headed towards Tulum and tell the colectivo attendant you want to be dropped at Cenote Eden before getting in the van.

Once you see the Barcelo Maya on your left, you’ll know you’re there.

You’ll see Cenote Jardin del Eden and Cenote Azul on your right hand side. There a variety of other cenotes in the area as well.

Always be ready to yell out “Alto, aqui, por favor” (Stop here, please!) just in case the driver forgets where you want to get dropped off.

A colectivo from Playa del Carmen to Cenote Eden should cost around 30 pesos ($2.25 USD) one-way per person.

Cenote Eden Asmision Price

The cost to get into Cenote Jardin del Eden is quite high at 60 pesos ($4.55 USD) when compared to many of the other cenotes in the area.

That being said, this cenote rocks, so be sure not to miss it!

  1. Awww looks like fun guys!! Wished I could have made it down. Next place! Haha. I’m a bit wimpy but I’ll cliff jump sometimes….I did it at Ariel’s Point in the Philippines. I think I downed to many beers to go higher and higher!

  2. We love Playa del Carmen, Cancun and Riviera Maya. We have not visited this cenote, but, we will on our next visit (maybe March 2015?) We did 39 nights last year in Playa/Cancun and 20 nights this year. Thanks for the video and blog!

  3. This looks fun! How can I get there by collectivo if heading north on the highway from Akumal? Are there alot of turnabouts?

Also, where can we jump off the cliff exactly? Are there marked platforms? (Just in case we get there really early before any crowds and don’t see anyone else jumping.) Thanks.

I hear there are lots of the little fish in this cenote that will nibble on the dead skin on your feet… the same kind of fish you see at the fish spas on 5th Ave… I’d rather have them nibble on me for free at the cenote… haha

    • We go to this one all the time. It is amazing. Not the most beautiful one, but the best cliff jump. It’s like 20 feet or so. You can climb a tree for a little more height. I do it all the time. Its super cheap to get in and ridiculously close to Akumal…which is where we always stay. Heading north from Akumal, it is only like 5 minutes. You will start to see the signs on the left hand side…there are 3 of them on the same area. Cenote Azul, Eden and Cristalino (they are right off of 307). All of them only a couple of dollars to get in. There are no concessions that I know of, but they allow ice chests. They check to make sure you don’t have alcohol. They held ours hostage until we left. LOL. Have fun.
