Pacific Coast Bike Tour Day 15: Humbug to Harris Beach State Park

Don’t miss: Pacific Coast Bike Tour Day 14: Coos Bay to Humbug State Park

After a rough nights sleep due to mice crawling all over our tent, I woke up feeling quite tired. I was looking forward to getting on the road as soon as possible so we packed up camp and took off from Humbug State Park around 10AM.

On the way we stopped into the Prehistoric Gardens, a popular children’s attraction here along HWY 101 in Oregon. I asked one of the staff members to snap a quick photo of us with the life sized T-Rex in the parking lot.

Lunch at Double D’s

We heard through the grapevine that once we passed through Gold Beach, OR, we would have a tough day of climbing ahead of us so we made a pit stop at Double D’s Cafe in Gold Beach to grab lunch.

The service was great, the owners were friendly and the food was delicious. Definitely stop in there if you’re ever cruising through Gold Beach.

Pushing on to Brookings

As soon as we left Gold Beach we were faced with Cape Sebastian which was supposedly the toughest climb in all of Oregon. We started the ascent of Sebastian and before we knew it, it was all over. Are you sure that was the toughest climb? I could have sworn we had experienced tougher climbs over the past few days. After Sebastian we were met with more than a few hills which weren’t half as big as Sebastian. Sure, this was officially the hilliest day of the tour so far but Sebastian really isn’t anything to worry about. It’s either that or we’re just getting that much stronger?

On our way to Brookings, we tried our best to take in what would be our last views of the Oregon Coastline. We only have one more night here in Oregon before we enter California, the last state of our journey!

Arch Rock - Oregon

We stopped off at Arch Rock but I didn’t think there was that much to look at. Maybe I’m just fed up with seeing giant rocks sticking up out of the ocean at this point. I don’t know.

Harris Beach State Park

Once we arrived at Harris Beach State Park we ended up spotting that group of high schoolers that we originally passed back in Bandon, OR. They’re a cool group of kids. We also met up with our friend Sarah that we met back at Humbug State Park. We chatted for a while before setting up camp and hitting the hay for the night.

Tomorrow we will cruise an easy 30 miles over the border of Oregon into Crescent City, CA!

Total Mileage: 52 mi

  1. Hi Ryan,
Today was the first time I logged onto your website, ever. I read days 7-15. Now I have to read days 1-6. Any chance you could send them to me? I think it was talking to your father about this fantastic trip that got me to check out the web site. I’m enjoying it. Photos are great. Give Will’s booboo a kiss for me. Barbara
