End of Summer Road Trip Part 4 – Jersey Shore Baby!
After our exhilarating drive through Six Flags Wild Safari, it was time to move on. We thought about stopping into Six Flags Great Adventure to ride El Toro one more time but we eventually decided that we would do something different today.
I told Billy our next destination was up to him and that I’d take him where ever he wanted to go today. The running joke of the trip was that we would go to Seaside Heights to see where MTV’s reality show “The Jersey Shore” is filmed. You see, Billy is a huge Jersey Shore fan so being able to visit the actual house where it all goes down was extremely high on his list of priorities.
I, myself, have never actually seen the show so I can’t say I knew anything about the show prior to this weekend. Sure, I’ve heard people talk about it so I’m not totally clueless.
Here’s what I know about the Jersey Shore…
I know of that little troll named Snooki (she was out in Vegas while we were there a few weeks ago), I’ve heard of your boy “The Situation” and his abs (I saw him get booed off stage at the Roast of Donald Trump), and no, you don’t have to tell me about the roid rage that Ronnie unleashes on an episode-to-episode basis. I’ve heard it all! Oddly enough I just cannot seem to find the motivation to turn on the television to tune into this train wreck.
To “The Shore” We Go!
Since I knew Seaside Heights (Jersey Shore) was a must see for Billy, I decided “what the hell, let’s go!” I’m always down for an adventure, especially to a place that I’ve never been before. Billy plugged in the address of a street he remembered from the show into his GPS and we were off! If I can remember correctly, it was Fremont Ave? Supposedly the Jersey Shore house was right around the corner from there so we figured we would use Fremont as a point of interest.
An hour later we arrive and after a few minutes of debating on where to park we decided on a small hotel parking lot just steps from the boardwalk of Seaside Heights. We threw the lot attendant $5 and before I could park the car Billy was already in “Jersey Shore” mode.
O-M-G The Jersey Shore House!
I hopped out of the car and as I was attempting to explain to Billy that he could use my small camera today, he had already spotted the Jersey Shore house and was in full stride across the street to take photos of it. Oh, and I should also mention that he had pretty much already uploaded a photo to facebook by the time I grabbed my camera gear out of the car… Too funny!
Coincidentally enough, we had parked in a hotel parking lot that was located exactly across the street from the house seen in the world’s most popular reality television show.
Wanna Rent It?
So you want to rent this hole? No problem! Head on over to Seaside Realty, they’ll be sure to take care of you and your rental inquiries. So what’s the damage of renting this place for the night? Try $2500 bucks! When I say this place is a dive, I truly mean it. The photos don’t do it justice…
To the Shore Store!
After we gawked at the decrepit house also known as the home of the Jersey Shore, we headed towards the boardwalk of Seaside Heights. Billy wanted to make a quick stop into the infamous Jersey Shore t-shirt shop on the boardwalk called “The Shore Store“.
The Store itself is literally connected to the back of the actual Jersey Shore house. I’m not sure if the owner of the Shore Store is also the owner of the house but if so, this guy is literally rolling in the dough.
I took a short stroll around the Shore Store in hopes to capture some photos that depict the classiness of the Jersey Shore. Check out just a small sample of some of the thousands of t-shirts available for purchase at the Shore Store below.
I also stumbled upon a few more t-shirts with idiotic sayings like these…
Here’s some more shots of the store… and Billy in his glory!
Billy ended up buying himself a souvenir t-shirt and a nice one at that. He picked up the traditional Jersey license plate t-shirt that says Shore Store on it.
It was actually one of the few halfway decent shirts in the place…
Hitting the Boardwalk
After gawking at the vulgar t-shirts of the Shore Store we hit the boardwalk of Seaside Heights to see what else was happening other than the Jersey Shore craze.
We walked the entire boardwalk from start to finish and I took shot some interesting photos along the way.
After all of the walking we did, we started to build up an appetite for the food that you would imagine would be sold in a place like this. You know, like pieces of pizza bigger than your head and all kinds of deep fried desserts!
Both myself and Billy tried our first ever deep fried Oreo. Our thoughts? It was scrumptious! Seriously, is there anything out there that’s deep fried that DOESN’T taste good?
After exploring all that Seaside Heights had to offer, we made our way over to Princeton, New Jersey. Talk about a change of scenery! We literally went from one extreme to another coming from the Jersey Shore to a high end town like Princeton.
Here, we met up for tea with my friend Aubrey followed by a tasty dinner at the Alchemist and Barrister.
This is officially the end to our End of Summer Road Trip. Hope you enjoyed the stories and photos from my latest travels. Stay tuned for more crazy travel tales coming soon to a computer near YOU!
