Little Italy Inn Review – A Beautiful B&B in San Diego, CA

Little Italy Inn

Little Italy Inn - San Diego, CA Little Italy Inn

Welcome to the Little Italy Inn, a beautifully decorated European-style Bed & Breakfast located in the heart of Little Italy and just minutes from Downtown San Diego, CA.

Those who share a love for European style hotels will feel right at home as soon they walk through the doors of the Little Italy Inn.

The Little Italy Inn offers a variety of different options and rates for their guests from Economy rooms to rooms with Kitchenettes, to King Spa Rooms. No matter which choice you make, you’re guaranteed to thoroughly enjoy your stay at the Little Italy Inn.

The following review is based on my personal opinion and my experiences through out a 4-night stay at the Little Italy Inn.

Note: I stayed in two different rooms at the Little Italy Inn during my 4-day stay and I will be reviewing both rooms below.

Economy Room

The first room that I stayed in at the Little Italy Inn was the Economy Room. For $69.00/night, this place is an absolute bargain!

Economy Room

What I love most about the Little Italy Inn is that every room is decorated differently. Each room has it’s own flavor in a way. You’ll see the difference when you see my review of the King Spa Room below.

Overall the room was very clean and well kept. Sure, it was a little on the small side but how many of you stay locked up in your hotel room when you travel?

Note: One thing I want to mention is that the Economy Room does not have an ensuite bathroom. I, personally, had no issue with using a shared bathroom but I understand that some of you might not like the idea of sharing a bathroom with others. I should also mention that there are several shared bathrooms throughout the hotel so if you do end up sharing a restroom, it’s usually only shared with two or three rooms.

Room Amenities:

  • King or Queen Bed
  • Shared Common Bathroom and Shower
  • Individually Decorated Room
  • In-room safe
  • Complimentary in-room bottled water

King Spa Room

King Spa Room

After spending two nights in the Economy room, the manager (Mitch) had mentioned that he had a vacancy for the last two nights of my trip in the King Spa Room. Considering I was still nursing my knee pain I decided to move on over to the King Spa Room and get some use of the jacuzzi tub while I was at it.

The King Spa Room was equipped with a private bathroom, king bed, air conditioning, and a small closet for storing your clothes, bags, and more.

As I mentioned above, this room was decorated differently than the economy room and it definitely felt like an upgrade. If the lighting, ensuite bathroom, flat panel tv, and king sized bed didn’t make you feel at home then I’m sure the jacuzzi tub will change your mind. What else could you ask for after a long day of exploring the city?

Room Amenities:

  • King Bed
  • Private Bath with Jacuzzi Tub
  • In-room safe
  • Air conditioning
  • Complimentary in-room bottled water

The hallways of the Little Italy Inn are setup so that you can escape your room and still stay connected to the outside world via the complimentary Wi-Fi signal that runs throughout the hotel. Whether you want to read your book in peace or work remotely, the Little Italy has everything you need.

The rear courtyard area of the Little Italy Inn is equipped with tables, chairs, benches and even a small water fountain. It’s a perfect place to enjoy your early morning tea and breakfast.

Conclusion:

After pedaling 1,700 miles down the Pacific Coast from Seattle, WA to the border of Mexico, checking into the Little Italy Inn was one of the best feelings in the world. I instantly shared a connection with Mitch, the manager of Little Italy as soon as I walked through the door. He treats his guest like gold and to be honest I have rarely experienced the level of customer service that I received during my stay at the Little Italy Inn. Mitch is super passionate about his job and his hotel. If there is anything you need at the hotel or even outside of the hotel, Mitch will take care of you.

Also, please note that the Little Italy Inn has changed ownership, management and ALL staff as of June 1st, 1, 2012 so if you’re searching for reviews, be sure to pay attention to the ones that are posted after June 1, 2012. To clarify, Mitch and his business partners are the new proud owners of the Little Italy Inn!

Location

The Little Italy Inn is located right on the edge of the Little Italy district in San Diego. You can literally turn left out of the hotel and in two short blocks you will arrive at the beginning of Little Italy on your left. The Little Italy Inn is also a short walk from Downtown San Diego as well as Balboa Park.

Note: The closest trolley stop to the Little Italy Inn is the County Center/Little Italy station.

Other Notes:

Below you’ll find a few notes I have for the staff at Little Italy Inn.

  • I would recommend they install a small flat panel TV on the walls of the Economy Rooms instead of having the little 13″ television that sits over on the desk in the corner. A 27″ or 32″ flat panel tv would be the perfect size for the economy rooms. I personally don’t watch tv when I travel but I know a lot of people who do.
  • The Wi-Fi was really slow during my stay in the King Room Spa (Room H).
  • Laundry service would be a great addition to the hotel in my opinion.

Amenities:

Lounge/Common Area, Courtyard, Ice machine, Continental Breakfast included with Rooms, Free Wi-Fi, Air conditioning and more.

Rooms/Rates:

  • Economy Room w/ AC and Shared Bathroom : $69 USD/night
  • King Spa Room w/ AC and En-suite Bathroom : $140 USD/night
  • More room options and rates are available upon inquiry
