Los Suenos Marriott - Costa Rica

LOS SUENOS MARRIOTT OCEAN & GOLF RESORT

My first few days at Alma Del Pacifico completely changed my mind about Costa Rica. I guess the second time’s a charm!

After a few activity-filled days at Alma Del Pacifico, it was time to pack my bags and make my way to my over to the Los Suenos Marriott for my final few days in Costa Rica.

As soon as we drove through the entrance to the Los Suenos property, I knew I was going to be in for a real treat. While I tend to prefer small boutique hotels such as Alma Del Pacifico, Anglers Resort, and Sense Beach House, there are times where I simply cannot resist a short stay at a big name resort like the Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort.

The size of the Los Suenos Marriott will blow your mind upon arrival. We’re not talking 75-rooms and a pool. We’re talking a full fledged 200-room resort sitting on 1,100 acres of rainforest overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

If that isn’t enough, the Los Suenos Marriott also has an on site rainforest spa and retreat, an 18-hole championship golf course and a 300-slip marina which is home to sport fishing boats and luxury yachts. Oh, and if you feel like arriving by helicopter, they’ve got a helipad awaiting your arrival.

INSIDE THE LOS SUENOS MARRIOTT

The walk from the taxi to the check-in desk is abnormally long but well worth it. I mean, just take a look at the main lobby of this hotel.

The outdoor terrace is just as spectacular with views overlooking the pool and the Pacific Ocean in the distance.

After checking in, I was shown to my Ocean View King room on the third floor.

The room itself was setup like any other Marriott guest room I have ever stayed at. All Marriott rooms seem to  have similar layouts and they also seem to be pretty uniform when it comes to size. Nothing overly special about the room, although I wasn’t looking for much of anything as my plans were to settle in and enjoy everything the resort had to offer.

THE VIEW FROM ABOVE

Usually the first thing I do when I get to a resort is to find the highest point. Fortunately, the highest point of the Los Suenos Marriott was right around the corner from my room. Up two flights of stairs and I was greeted with these amazing views.

After taking in some of the incredible views from above, it was time to head down to ground level and explore more of the resort.

LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT POOL!

All I can say is that the pool at the Los Suenos Marriott is an absolute maze. So big that it’s almost hard to navigate. There were bridges,  small tunnels, group fitness areas, a volleyball area, a swim up pool bar, waterfalls and so much more.

I spent two long afternoons by the pool during my stay and I can’t tell you how incredibly relaxing it was to be soaking up the sun with a cold drink in hand.

I ventured away from the pool a few times and spotted some big iguanas running around the property. I may or may not have chased a few of them around the grounds with my GoPro in hand.

DINING AT THE LOS SUENOS MARRIOTT

When I wasn’t lying by the pool, I was busy chowing down at La Vista restaurant.

As a matter of fact, La Vista restaurant is where I spent my early mornings, afternoons and my nights. The food was some of the best food I encountered on my trip to Costa Rica.

Sure, there were other restaurants on site, but I didn’t come prepared with my dress shirt and slacks. My sports apparel certainly would not have agreed with the dress code at restaurants such as Nuevo Latino and I was completely content with that.

CONCLUSION:

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Los Suenos Marriott. While I didn’t do much of anything when it comes to the wide array of local activities available, I felt as if my stay was the perfect ending to a memorable trip to Costa Rica.

  1. We stayed there in Feb 2010 for 3 nights, its a gorgeous resort but will be way to expensive on our upcoming RTW trip. The food was pricey too. Amazing pool though! Did you go to the casino, we spent a few hours there as well. Glad you had a great time!

    • Awesome Hannah! You’re right, it’s definitely not somewhere that most budget travelers would be able to afford. I actually thought the food at La Vista was pretty decently priced. No, I’m not much of a gambler so I never made it to the casino. Thanks for the comment!
