San Antonio Vacation Experience

Choosing the Winner

Choosing the winner proved to be a very difficult task. We had more than 70 entries from people all across the U.S. and I was torn between giving the vacation package to myself (just kidding), or to the person with the most memorable family vacation.

In all seriousness, in the end it came down to 4 of my favorite entries. Here they are…

1. My most memorable vacation was going to Europe and getting to see where my parents lived in France while my dad was stationed there with the US Airforce in the early 1960′s. Their landlord still lived in the same house after all those years and remembered them! We spent several hours visiting and got to take an updated picture of my parents leaning out the same second story window of their old apartment. It recreated the photo 30 years later of the one that they had shown us all those years when they talked about their time in France. – Jim

2. We just got home from our most memorable family vacation – to Alaska. We spent a week in nice cool weather surrounded by beautiful scenery. The 9-year-old and the 2-year-old had a great time. We didn’t have cell phone signals most of the time, and there was no TV in our cabin in Denali National Park. We had a great time. It was especially cool to get to meet Dad in the Anchorage airport at the beginning our our trip since he had been working in Alaska for a month. Seeing the 2-year-old run into his arms at the airport was priceless. – Kellie

3. By far the best family vacation-December 2006 over NYE to the Western Carribean with my family. My parents, sisters & I flew into Miami a day early and headed out Sunday morning to start our adventures to Jamaica, Cozumel, Grand Cayman. Every Island we did some type of activity (Grand Cayman-Sting Ray City, Jamaica-Swimming with the dolphins & climbing Dunn’s Rivers Fall, and Jamaica-renting jet ski’s). We learned about the islands & culture and took in as much as we could in the time we spent at each place! The memories that we shared/created, was the best part! – Liz R.

4. My most memorable vacation was in Orlando, FL. My fiance decided to fly me out there on my 25th Birthday. The moment we landed I wanted to move there. The state is the most beautiful thing you have ever seen. We stayed at a gorgeous resort that looked like its own subdivision because it was so huge. There were pools everywhere and waterfalls. We only spent 3 days/2 nights there. The first day was at the beach which coming from the gulf of mexico (texas) looked like heaven with its clear skies, blue waters, and dolphins. I found my first sand dollar and starfish (ALIVE)!!! I also got to ride a jet ski for the first time and took a tour out there. The people are so friendly! The next day we spent at disneyworld which you really need a week to experience the entire thing because it has so much to offer. I nearly choked back tears seeing the castle but totally lost it when the day came to an end and we got to see the parade of lights with the fireworks. It was the best vacation ever!!! – D’Ann

Since I couldn’t make the final decision on the best, most memorable vacation story, I used a random number generator to do the job for me. The random number generator chose… LUCKY #3!
