RED, THE STEAKHOUSE
Red is an award winning restaurant with three locations in the US including Cleveland, South Beach and it’s latest opening in Boca Raton, FL. Oh, and did I mention that Red has been named as one of the Top 10 Steakhouses in the country? Read on to find out why Esquire, Playboy and Food & Wine absolutely rave about this place.
During our recent trip to Miami, Liz and I had the opportunity to dine at some pretty incredible places.
We took our first South Beach Food Tour with Miami Culinary Tours, experienced the Sunday Champagne Brunch at the Biltmore, enjoyed a tasty dinner at 660 at the Anglers, chowed down on some yummy Cuban food at Versailles and more.
On our last night in Miami, Liz and I were invited down to Red for a media tasting. Now when you think of the word tasting, you think something along the lines of a food sampling, right? You know, like a little taste of a few of the best items on the menu?
Wrong. Not here my friends! We were about to experience the best that Red had to offer thanks to Peter Vauthy, the Executive Chef of the Red.
Tonight, Peter would be our personal chef and boy did he have some serious food in store for us.
We arrived a little earlier than our scheduled reservation so we made our way over to the bar area where we had a couple cocktails while we chatted with Rosemary Staltare, the Director of Marketing and Sales for Red.
Neither myself nor Liz really drink too often but we felt as if we should live it up a little bit on our last night in town. I ended up going for the world renowned Nicaraguan based Flor de Caña rum and diet while Liz went with a glass of Reisling.

We were then introduced to Peter Vauthy, the Executive Chef at Red. He asked us a few quick questions about things we like and don’t like so that he could prepare the dishes accordingly. Once he found out that I don’t eat seafood, it was all over!
He looked directly at me and said “Ryan, I’m going to change your mind about seafood tonight. Trust me”.
Clams Casino – Topneck Clams, Domestic Pancetta, Vermouth & Bread Crumbs
It’s been a while since Liz has ordered Clams Casino and this starter reminded her of why she needs to order this dish more often.
JB’s Steak Tartare – Cab Prime Hand Cut Beef Tenderloin, Shallots, Capers & Crisp Crostini
I really enjoyed the Steak Tartare. It was so rare, yet so delicious. Simply place a small piece of the steak tartare on your crostini and chow down. Your taste buds will thank you later.
Lemon Garlic Shrimp – White Gulf Shrimp, Crushed Garlic, Sliced Lemon, White Wine & Toasted Crostini
Liz was a big fan of the Lemon Garlic Shrimp dish. “It’s just something that everyone has to try!” – Liz
Tuna Nachos – Tuna, whipped wasabi, cilantro aioli and pickled vegetables
If you check out the menu, you’ll notice that you won’t find this dish on there. That’s because Peter decided to surprise us with this special appetizer. As soon as it started heading our way, Liz was hoping this one was for us. And, it was!
I’m no seafood eater but I have to say that this and the Steak Tartare were my favorite appetizers of the night. The combination of the fresh tuna and the crispy chips was absolutely delicious!
Lone Mountain Wagyu & Filet
Oh, Wagyu. Why haven’t we met prior to this meal? Hands down, this is the best steak I’ve ever eaten. It was cooked perfectly and it was the most tender meat I’ve eaten to date. Whatever you do, DO NOT leave Red without trying the Wagyu!
Lobster Mac N’ Cheese, Sauteed Broccoli and Garlic, Green Beans w/ Pancetta, Pepper Flakes & Pine Nuts, and Creamed Corn
The Lobster Mac N’ Cheese at Red is to die for! Yeah, you heard me! I devoured the Lobster Mac N’ Cheese here.You’ll notice that it’s not on the menu but I’m pretty sure if you ask, you’ll probably be able to score yourself a side of it.
The Creamed Corn came in close second as our favorite side dish followed by the Broccoli & Garlic and last but not least the Green Beans.
On to the desserts, shall we?
The Mini Cheesecake tasted excellent, but it was just too “typical” after consuming all of the food shown above. As good as it was, I wouldn’t order it again.
Fresh-n-Hot Doughnut Holes w/ Raspberry Sauce
I couldn’t even tell you the last time I ate doughnuts. Eww! In saying that, these doughnuts were off the charts! They were freshly baked, topped with powdered sugar and had a raspberry jam sauce on the side to dip them in. Can you say YUM?
Mini Key Lime Pie
Liz thought the Mini Key Lime Pie at Red was tasty although it’s not something that she would order again.
Peaches w/ Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
Alright, so this was a special dessert sent out by Executive Chef Peter Vauthy. If I can remember correctly, I want to say that he used fresh Florida Peaches in this one. This thing was the definition of colossal! The photo doesn’t even do it justice.
Overall, Red, the Steakhouse was the most delicious meal we had during our trip to Miami without a doubt. In all honesty, I’m not sure that I’ve had a more incredible meal anywhere in the world.
I’m letting you know right here, right now that if you travel to Miami without stopping into Red, you’re making a big mistake! Even if it’s just to grab a quick drink and an appetizer, it’s a MUST that you make the stop into Red.
I also want to mention that prior to dining at Red, I was not a seafood eater at all! Big thanks to Executive Chef, Peter Vauthy for proving my taste buds wrong and opening my eyes to a whole new world of food. You ROCK Peter!
