Zvrko Apartments - Cavtat, Croatia

Zvrko Apartments

Greetings from Zvrko Apartments in Cavtat, Croatia. Most of you are probably asking yourselves, “Where the heck is Cavtat, Croatia?” Well, that’s a great question!

Cavtat is an extremely quiet and relaxing seaside town located just 16km (>10 miles) south of Dubrovnik. Those of you who have been following along with us for a while now know that our first visit to Dubrovnik left us yearning for more as it was one of the most beautiful and picturesque places that we visited in all of Europe. If that doesn’t say something about how we feel when it comes to this part of Croatia, I don’t know what does.

So why Cavtat this time around? Well, we decided that we wanted to mix things up a little bit and see if we could find something that was near enough to Dubrovnik for day trips yet far enough away that we felt as if we were somewhere remote and far from the hordes of tourists and souvenir shops. If you’re looking for somewhere that you can kick back, relax and bask in the Croatian sun after a long day of sightseeing in Dubrovnik, Cavtat is the place to be.

We reached out to Apartments Zvrko before arriving in Croatia and they were nice enough to host us in one of their cute little apartments located up in the hillside village of Poluganje in Cavtat.

Note: The photos below were taken of the apartment next door to us as ours was a little messy after staying here for a few days. The apartment has the same layout, just flipped.

Zvrko Apartments - Bedroom

As you enter the apartment, you’re met with a dividing wall that separates the kitchen from the bedroom. Our bedroom is tucked away on the right hand side of the room and is fairly spacious considering how small the apartment actually is. The only downfall for me is that I need to sleep on the right side the bed in order to avoid hitting my head on the slanted ceilings on the left hand side of the room.

One of the nicest features about the bedroom is that you have access to your own private terrace via both the bedroom and the kitchen. During the day we like to open the doors to the terrace and let the beautiful breeze flow through the apartment.

The terrace access point from the bedroom also allows a lot of natural light to come through if you decide to open up the blinds on the door yet when the blinds are closed it’s dark enough to sleep in until late morning if you’d like.

The bed is quite comfortable and so isn’t the fresh sheets, blankets and pillows that come along with it. There are two side tables that accompany the bed as well. If you’re into watching television when you’re on vacation, you’ll be glad to hear that all apartments are equipped with SAT/TV. You’re not really sitting in watching tv while you’re on vacation though, are you?

We haven’t used the air-conditioning much at all since we arrived but that’s because of the fact that there’s such a beautiful breeze during this part of the year that we haven’t found a reason to use it. It is there for those of you that arrive during the hottest times of year and we can confirm that it runs really cold, which is always a plus in our book.

Zvrko Apartments - Kitchen

The kitchen is to the left as you enter the apartment. Inside you’ll find a two-burner stovetop, sink, microwave, refrigerator, cooking utensils, pots, pans, strainers, a small two seat couch, a small table with three chairs and even a panini maker.

We really enjoyed waking up in the morning and sitting at the kitchen table with the door to our terrace open as we ate breakfast.

If you’re the type that enjoys cooking your own food when you’re on vacation, staying in an apartment that has a kitchen is a must. We try to eat in as much as possible in order to keep our food costs down when we’re on the road so staying at Zvrko allowed us to cook what we wanted, when we wanted. With the grocery store being right across the road, we were able to stock up on everything we needed for the few days we stayed in Cavtat.

Zvrko Apartments - Pool

The pool side is lined with enough sun chairs for everyone to go around and the views. The views! Do I need to explain how amazing the views are from up here?

I should also mention that there is a small fitness area that overlooks the pool and the sea below which is equipped with a treadmill, elliptical, a bike, ab ball, jacuzzi, and a sauna. You know, in case you want to work off all that delicious gelato you’ve been treating yourself with during your vacation.

If your idea of a paradise is a view of the sea with a cocktail in hand, all it takes is a quick trip to the grocery store across the road and you’re one step closer to your dream vacation.

Those who are in search of pure relaxation will really enjoy the location of Zvrko Apartments. You’re just 10 miles from Dubrovnik, a half mile from the sea, and 200ft from the nearest grocery store.

How to Get to Zvrko Apartments

  • By Air: The Dubrovnik airport is only 3 miles (5 km) from the apartments and they do offer a free airport pickup service.
  • By International Ferry: Since we arrived to Dubrovnik by ferry via Bari, Italy we simply took the bus from the port and it took us all the way out to Cavtat. Please note that the apartments are located in a village called Poluganje and to get here you’ll need to take the bus towards Cavtat but make sure to get off at either the stop for the village of Obod or the village of Zvekovica. The apartments are located about 5-7 minutes walk from either of these stops.

As I stated, the bus stations are very close to the apartments therefore it’s easy to access just about any village from here to Dubrovnik. Buses run from Dubrovnik to Cavtat and Cavtat to Dubrovnik just about every hour. You can view the bus schedule here.

Overall, we really enjoyed our relaxing stay at Zvrko Apartments and we would highly recommend that you stay here as well. In saying that, we cannot stress enough that this place would be perfect for those who are looking for some peace and quiet. There isn’t too much going on in this quiet little town so if you’re interested in staying where the action is, finding accommodations in Dubrovnik would be your best bet.

We encountered a few issues during our stay at Zvrko Apartments and in all fairness, it’s our job to fill you guys in on the good and the bad of our stays.

If you’re someone who relies on and/or works on the Internet like us, you probably won’t be satisfied with the Wi-Fi connection here at Zvrko. Maybe it’s just a bad connection in our room? We seem to struggle to keep a decent connection in our kitchen so we usually try to sit out on our terrace or make our way down to the common area in the front of the apartments where the Wi-Fi connection is pretty solid. Many of you might not rely on a good Wi-Fi connection as much as we do but when you run a business that revolves around travel, posting updates, blogs, photos, etc, quality Wi-Fi is an absolute must.

Other than the Internet issues, just about everything about this place is excellent. If you’re ever planning on visiting Dubrovnik, or Cavtat, be sure to check these apartments out.
