The DoubleTree Grand Key Resort is a luxury resort located just 1 mile from the Key West International Airport and just under 5 miles from Old Town Key West.

Those who have stayed at DoubleTree properties in the past will really enjoy this property as it has that traditional “DoubleTree” feeling to it.

Oh, and did I mention that warm chocolate chip cookie that you receive at check-in at all DoubleTree properties?

The Grand Key Resort offers 216 guest rooms from your standard Queen & King Rooms with or without balconies to Two Room Suites (Queen & King) with balconies.

The following review is based on my personal opinion and my experiences through out a 3-night stay at the DoubleTree Grand Key Resort.

Check-In

We arrived at the hotel around 3PM and upon check-in were told that our room wouldn’t be ready for another 30 minutes or so. We were starting to get hungry so we had no problem with the delayed check-in process although we did think it was quite odd that it was 3:30PM and the rooms still weren’t ready. Either way, it was no real issue. In the meantime, we headed out to the outdoor patio area and ordered some lunch.

Just before we finished up our lunch, a staff member delivered our room keys to us and told us that we were all set. She mentioned that there were no rooms with balconies left so we were moved to a room without one. Interesting.

The fact that we wouldn’t have a balcony wasn’t the end of the world but how could the DoubleTree run out of rooms if we had an actual reservation for this specific room?

Again, we shrugged off the miscommunication and made our way up to what would be our home for the few days.

King Guest Room

The room was fitted with a incredibly comfortable King size bed, flat panel television (we never turned it on), a mini refrigerator, complimentary Wi-Fi access, desk, in-room safe and everything else your major chain hotel would have in a room.

Unlike many standard hotel rooms that I’ve stayed at, the Grand Key Resort includes a small couch and table in the room. I enjoyed sitting down and having my morning tea on the couch versus having to drink it in bed.

Overall, we thought the room was very clean and the housekeepers were on point when it came to resupplying us with towels and other necessities.

The lobby area of the Grand Key Resort is where you can find the check-in desk, concierge, restaurant, and much more. To the left is a small fitness center with everything you need to get your workout on. You see that aqua colored object in the back of the photo above? Well, that’s the DoubleTree Grand Key Resorts mini aquarium fish tank.

Walk straight through the lobby to the rear and you’ll arrive at the outdoor patio dining area, full bar, jacuzzi tub and your typical resort style pool.

Conclusion:

We had a great stay at the DoubleTree Grand Key Resort. I think the beds were our favorite feature of the hotel. They were just so incredibly comfortable!

The only problem that we found with this hotel is that it’s a 15-minute drive from Old Town Key West. The hotel offers a shuttle service that runs every hour but when the hotel is busy the shuttle fills up fast. We never had an issue with not being able to board the shuttle due to crowds but there were definitely people who were left behind only to wait for the next one to come along.

If you’re interested in being in the “middle of it all”, the DoubleTree Grand Key Resort is not for you. On the other hand, if you don’t mind waiting around for a shuttle from time to time then this is an excellent option when it comes to quality accommodations in Key West.
