ECBC Javelin Daypack Review

ECBC JAVELIN DAYPACK

If you’re anything like me, you carry more gear than clothes when you travel. Here are two of the biggest issues I run into when packing my electronics and travel gear for an upcoming trip:

#1. Where am I going to fit it all? Where the hell am I going to fit a DSLR, an extra lens (or two), a point-and-shoot, my iPod Touch, GoPro, X-Shot, GorillaPod, chargers, batteries, laptop, mouse and more?

This usually ends with me sitting there staring into my suitcase or backpack trying to figure out if I can afford to remove an extra shirt or a pair of pants that I’ll end up needing in the long run in order to squeeze in an extra piece of gear.

#2. It’s tough to stay organized! Staying organized is key to managing your gear and your sanity on the road. Let’s face it, there’s nothing worse than fishing through your backpack for ten minutes looking for your iPod charger cable. In an ideal world, you should know exactly where your cable is located straight from the get-go.

THE ANSWER IS HERE

ECBC Javelin BackpackThe ECBC Javelin Daypack is absolutely loaded with all of the features a traveler could ever want and need. Looking for pockets to store all of your gear, cables, laptops, tablets, smartphones, sunglasses, headphones, drinks, passports, pens, and spare change? No problem.

With three main compartments and more than eleven different pockets that vary in size, the ECBC Javelin packs a huge punch all while keeping its extremely slim look and design.

PUTTING IT TO THE TEST

A few days before leaving for my two and a half week trip to Fiji, I decided to transfer all of my gear from my old traditional one-compartment Columbia backpack into my new ECBC Javelin backpack and put it to the ultimate test.

Protection: Knowing that we were going to endure our fair share of rain on this trip, I was both excited and a little nervous to test out the water resistance of the Javelin.

Thankfully, the Javelin is built with this incredibly strong ballistic nylon which is coated with a water repellent. In the end, the combination of the super strong nylon and the water resistance proved to be everything I need when it comes to protecting my gear from the elements.

Comfortability: The super comfy adjustable padded shoulder straps on the Javelin allow you to get the perfect fit. Most of the time, I forgot that the Javelin was even on my back. Did I mention that this bag was the comfiest pack I’ve owned to date?

Organization: Staying organized with the Javelin was incredibly easy after the first couple of days. After some trial and error, I knew exactly where everything was without even thinking. I found myself reaching into my bag and instinctively grabbing my DSLR, USB cables, headphones and more.

One thing I love about the Javelin is that it has so many pockets. Trust me, having way more pockets than you need is always better than not having an extra pocket when you need one!

TRAVEL WITH EASE

ECBC Javelin BackpackWe all know what it’s like to have to pull out our laptops each time we pass through airport security here in the United States. It’s a pain to say the least.

One of the most interesting features of the ECBC Javelin daypack is its signature “TSA Approved FastPass laptop compartment.” According to ECBC, you no longer have to take your laptop out of your bag when passing through airport security. All you need to do is unzip the Javelin’s FastPass compartment send it through the x-ray scanners.

Note: I tested the FastPass feature when passing through security at LAX and it worked perfectly. In saying that, I imagine that there’s a really good possibility that you will get stopped and searched when using this bag due to either a lack of knowledge by the TSA about the bags features, or if you happen to run into a TSA employee with a drill-sergeant mentality.

CONCLUSION:

The real question I had when I received this bag was could the ECBC Javelin prove its worth and become my go-to backpack for my future travels? Without hesitation, the answer is YES!

This is hands down the best daypack I’ve ever traveled with and I can guarantee you’ll think the same once you get your hands on one.
