Don’t miss: Pacific Coast Bike Tour Day 23: Conquering Leggett!
My number one priority this morning was to get myself a fresh new pair of tires. I had been running on these tires far too long and it was time for a major upgrade.
We rode about two miles into town from MacKerricher SP to Fort Bragg and stopped into Fort Bragg Cyclery.
I spent some time chatting with the owner about the issues I was having with my tires and it just went in one of his ears and out the other. Although he was pretty antisocial, I will admit he did hook me up with an incredible set of tires. He recommended I go for the Specialized Armadillo All Condition tires and I must say that I had no clue what riding on a real tire felt like until I slapped a pair of these things on my bike.
After all was said and done I ended up forking out $116.00 for the job. ($50/tire x 2 + $8 mounting fee/tire x 2).
Even though I hadn’t planned on dropping $100 on tires, it was 100% worth the money in the end. As soon as I hopped back on the bike and headed south, I realized that I made a great decision. Ochocinco rides like a dream!
The rest of our ride to Manchester, CA was pretty uneventful. Like any trip, there are always down days or days that you don’t encounter much action. Today was one of them.
We cruised over the rolling hills of Hwy 1, one small hill at a time.
Our biggest challenge of the day was this monster of a climb. It wasn’t extremely long, it was just that the grade was so steep on the curves.
Once we arrived at Manchester State Park, we threw up our tent and took down a can of Chef Boyardee. Nothing but high quality food over here folks!
After dinner we hiked the dunes of Manchester State Park.
