Whether you’re a frequent business traveler, an avid globe trotter, or a digital nomad, the right travel accessories can maximize your comfort on an airplane, train, or bus.

Every traveler has distinct preferences when it comes to carrying additional items other than their luggage.

Some travelers can’t bear the thought of a multi-day road trip without their travel pillow and eye mask, while others find more value in tech-savvy gadgets like iPads, portable speakers and white noise machines.

Style-savvy travelers pack practical accessories, like sunglasses, packing cubes, toiletry kits, and wrinkle-free travel clothes.

If you’re unsure what to pack for your upcoming vacation, this round-up of travel-friendly accessories will be the perfect guide to get you started.

10 Travel-Friendly Accessories to Pack on Your Next Vacation

1. Sunglasses

A pair of sunglasses is one of the first items that travelers pack for an upcoming vacation, especially if it’s a sunny destination.

The harsh UV glare of the sun induces fatigue around the cornea, eyelids, and retina, exposing you to the risk factors of skin cancer.

A finely crafted pair of functional sunglasses will protect your eyes from the deep-penetrating UV light.

When it comes to UV protection, not all eyewear is treated equally. I recommend shopping from a reputable brand that designs eyewear harnessing innovative technologies and specialized materials.

For instance, Mouqy specializes in lightweight and functional eyewear, with many of its signature pieces equipped with blue-block technology to prevent eye fatigue and dizzying headaches.

People with sensitive skin should consider exploring premium quality acetate frames made with non-toxic, hypoallergenic materials.

Note: Sunglasses are an absolute must-have item for me when traveling. Don’t make the mistake of forgetting your sunglasses at home.

2. Packing Cubes

If you are someone who struggles with packing for trips then this next item on our list is for you.

Pick up a set of packing cubes and you’ll quickly learn how they can and will completely change the way you travel.

Trust me when I say that there is nothing like the feeling of knowing exactly where each item you pack is at all times and not having to tear through a bag to find that pair of shorts that you’re so sure that you packed but can’t seem to find.

Think of packing cubes as wardrobe drawers; you pack your socks and underwear in one packing cube, your jeans and shorts in another and your t-shirts and button-ups in another.

There are many reasons why experienced travelers swear by packing cubes as they allow you to pack more, save space and keep your luggage more organized than ever before.

Note: I have been using two different sets of Tortuga Packing Cubes for the last few years now and now I’m at the point where I can’t travel without them.

3. Travel Adapters

Never travel internationally without packing an international travel adapter.

What many travelers don’t realize before taking their first international trip is that not all plugs are alike.

Believe it or not, hotels and resorts don’t have international outlets as there is no such thing as universal plugs when you travel to other countries and continents.

A universal travel adapter features multiple plug types and USB ports to connect and power up your gadgets such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and more.

Most reputable brands offer outlets compatible with plugs used across popular destinations, such as the USA, UK, European Union, Australia, and Asia.

Don’t make the same mistake that tens of millions of international travelers make each year – plan ahead and be sure to pick up an international travel adapter before departing on your next big trip.

Note: Here are the international travel adapters that I picked up for my trip to Europe this summer.

4. Travel Pillow

Horrid neck cramps and shoulder pains are a glaring downside of road trips and long flights that demand staying in the same position for long periods of time.

Travel-friendly pillows are an excellent investment to enhance your comfort and fight off backaches by supporting your neck at a comfortable angle.

Microfiber neck pillows are a great choice for eco-conscious shoppers or people with sensitive skin.

These feather-like soft cushions are luxuriant and lightweight. But if you need sturdy support, a memory foam pillow will offer personalized comfort by contouring itself to the shape of your neck.

Note: I’m not a fan of travel pillows but I know that many travelers swear by them so that’s why they were included in this list.

5. Portable Luggage Scale

Airlines worldwide have strict policies when it comes to baggage size and weight – and now more than ever before.

Most airlines that operate international flights allow passengers to check one bag or suitcase as well as one carry-on bag and a personal item.

It is common for travelers to overpack their carry-on luggage which puts travelers in uncomfortable situations where the airline forces them to check their carry-on and defeats the purpose and stress of packing everything you need into one small carry-on bag.

A portable luggage scale will help you ensure your luggage is aligned with the size and weight restrictions imposed by your chosen airline.

Note: I would highly advise you to avoid checking luggage these days when possible. There are too many travel and baggage-related issues now that make for a very unpleasant experience when traveling.

6. Toiletry Travel Kit

When you pack your toiletries haphazardly, stuffing them on top of each other, accidents are bound to happen.

Air pressure fluctuations during flights and alpine journeys can cause tightly sealed bottles to loosen up, resulting in nasty spillages and leaks.

A toiletry travel kit is a functional accessory to organize all your bathing and grooming essentials and prevent expensive items from going to waste.

A toiletry kit is highly recommended for storing pricey cosmetic products, perfumes, makeup brushes, and sharp pointy items like manicure scissors and razors.

Note: I currently travel with a nice black leather toiletry bag that I picked up at TJ Maxx when I was back home.

7. TSA-Approved Travel Containers

Frequent travelers often struggle to follow through with dedicated skincare or personal grooming regimens due to TSA restrictions on carrying containers with liquid and gel-based products.

Investing in TSA-approved travel containers is the simplest way to comply with airline policies and your personal care regimens.

You can explore a wide range of TSA-approved containers designed to carry shampoos, moisturizers, lipsticks, toothpaste, aftershave, mouthwash, deodorants and even liquid makeup products.

Note: I picked up a set of these TSA Approved Travel Size Containers on Amazon before my recent trip to Europe and I’m really happy with them.

8. Portable Bluetooth Speaker

A portable Bluetooth speaker is a must-have travel gadget for outdoor adventures, days at the beach or just for hanging out at your Airbnb with friends.

Suppose you love music and taking the party with you wherever you go. In that case, you will find this gadget indispensable while exploring new destinations.

It’s wise to pay attention to the features and specifications, primarily size, weight, water resistance, portability, and battery time.

Most modern-day releases come with appealing specifications, like a built-in carabiner, dust-proofing, noise-canceling speakerphones, and durable cases.

Note: I own two different portable bluetooth speakers, one is the Anker Soundcore 2 and the other is the JBL Clip 3. The Anker Soundcore 2 has better overall sound quality while the JBL Clip 3 is more convenient and easy to travel with.

9. Yoga Mat

Dedicated yogis never travel without their yoga mats as they’re always eager to try new classes and studios while exploring new destinations.

While I love the idea, I still have yet to travel with my LuluLemon yoga mat as I feel that it’s a bit too heavy to carry with me on long journeys but it crosses my mind from time to time.

That being said, I know plenty of yogis out there that wouldn’t be caught dead without their yoga mat while traveling and I get it.

10. iPad

Travelers who dread the brain-draining boredom and monotony of staying in their seats during long flights and bus rides should consider investing in an iPad.

This versatile gadget supports an endless array of entertainment and leisure activities.

Long journeys seem less boring when you can watch your favorite shows on Netflix or tune into YouTube.

An iPad will also help you stay connected to work and loved ones, streamlining all your communication through one device.

Note: I recently bought the Apple iPad 12.9” and I really enjoy using it whether it’s at home or on trips abroad. My goal is to one day learn how to create digital art and illustrations with it.

Final Thoughts

Carrying travel-friendly accessories is a great way of maximizing your comfort and convenience with practical and functional items.

Using the right travel accessories will help elevate your style and personalize your luggage for a hassle-free vacation.
